Party Poker´s online satellites for the €1 million guaranteed German Poker Open represent excellent value for players aiming to compete in the target event.
The inaugural German Poker Championship takes place in the Kings Casino in Rozvadov from Sunday 6th August to Monday 14th August. Like many recent events falling under the “Party Poker Live” umbrella, it is a phased tournament that players can buy into at several different levels and play the higher levels either live or online.
Online satellites feeding into the event started running at Party Poker earlier this month, and although they offer the opportunity for players to share in the €1 million prize pool via a qualification route that starts at just $2.20, players have not – so far – been quick to take advantage of the opportunity. Currently, Party Poker´s GPC satellites all offer significant overlays.
The Qualification Route for the GPC Starts at $2.20
The qualification route for the German Poker Open consists of XX different levels. Players can buy into any level they choose to start their qualification journey, but should be aware that similar levels on the same day do not always guarantee the same number of seats into the next stage of qualification.
For example, hyper-turbo GPC Mini Feeders with buy-ins of $2.20 take place each day at 10:00am, 10:30am, 12.00noon and 12:30pm (all times EDT). Those taking place on the hour guarantee 100 seats into $11.00 “Feeders”, whereas those on the half hour only guarantee 10 seats into the next stage.
Both hyper-turbo GPC Mini Feeders are 6-Max tournaments in which players start with 30,000 chips to contend with blinds starting at 150/300 and increasing every two minutes. Typically, the hourly Mini Feeders attract fewer than 400 players – leaving Party Poker with an overlay of $300+ in each event.
Further Value in the Feeders and Championship Qualifiers
Turbo 8-Max Feeders with $11.00 buy-ins take place every hour from 11:00am to 2:00pm (again EDT – for BST add five hours and for CET add six hours). These too guarantee a different number of seats into the $55.00 buy-in Championship Qualifiers (either 5 seats or 20 seats) and – in recent days – not one has attracted enough entries to beat its guarantee.
Once players have qualified for the Championship Qualifiers, they have a choice of which format of game they want to play to progress into $250 buy-in Phase 1 of the German Poker Championship.
- At 1:00pm (EDT) there is a 6-Max turbo qualifier guaranteeing 10 seats into Phase 1.
- At 2:00pm (EDT) there is a 6-Max hyper-turbo guaranteeing 2 seats into Phase 1.
- At 3:00pm (EDT) there is an 8-Max turbo qualifier guaranteeing 10 seats into Phase 1.
Recent 1:00pm games and 3:00pm games have been attracting around 30 players each, meaning that each Championship Qualifier has overlaid by almost $1,000.
Better to Wait to Play in Phase 1 Games
Online Phase 1 games take place on Party Poker each day at 3:00pm. There are no guarantees about how many players will progress onto Phase 2. Instead players start each Phase 1 game with 100,000 chips and carry forward the chips they have left after 21 ten-minute levels.
Players buying into Phase 2 directly (for $2,500 online or €2,200 at the casino from Thursday 10th August) will start their pursuit for a share in the €1 million guaranteed prize pool with 1 million chips. Currently online Phase 1 games are only attracting around thirty players, so there may only be 3 million chips on the table and little chance of progressing into Phase 2 with a competitive stack.
Party Poker plays its online Phase 2 on Sunday August 6th at 3:00pm, so there is plenty of time to wait to qualify for this stage. In Phase 2 games, players start with blinds of 1,500/3,000 (ante 300 chips) and will play 8 thirty-minute levels. Those still alive at the end of Level 8 will progress onto the live Day 2 at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov on Saturday 12th August.
