The world´s largest online poker site is running a special Caribbean Adventure promo which it hopes will qualify 400 players for next year´s PCA Main Event.
From 6th January to 14th January 2018, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) returns to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas for the fourteenth time. Changes to last year´s Adventure include a slimming down of the schedule from ninety-eight events to thirty-one events, and an increase in the buy-in for the PCA Main Event from $5,000 to $10,000.
The PCA may not be the monster it once was in the pre-Black Friday days, but compared with Sochi (wet), Barcelona (hot) or Prague (cold), it is still one of the most popular destinations on the PokerStars tour for part-time players. Acknowledging this fact, PokerStars is trying its hardest to qualify as many part-time players as possible for the PCA Main Event with its new “Road to Bahamas” promotion.
Two Hundred Packages Guaranteed. Four Hundred Qualifiers the Goal
The promotion centers around two “ultra-satellites” on 15th October and 5th November. Each guarantees a minimum of one hundred packages to the PCA Main Event, with the package prize including the Main Event buy-in, accommodation for two at the Atlantis Resort, $1,000 room credit and $1,000 towards travelling expenses. The direct buy-in for each ultra-satellite is $530.00.
Conscious of the fact that a $530.00 buy-in is beyond the bankrolls of most part-time players, PokerStars is running plenty of events feeding into the ultra-satellite. In addition to regular $55 buy-in sub-satellites and “On Demand” Sit & Go games, the site has launched a special edition PCA Spin & Go game with a $27.50 buy-in in which players could win a PCA Main Event package or ultra-satellite entry.
There are also PCA Main Event packages up for grabs in weekly cash game and Spin & Go challenges, and PokerStars is adding $1 million in PCA-related prizes to the Stars Rewards program in the hope that between now and 5th November – when the promotion ends – four hundred players will have qualified for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event.
PokerStars´ Bahamas for $1 Phased Tournaments
Whereas the “Road to Bahamas” promotion has been very heavily marketed, one route to the PCA Main Event seems to have been quietly slipped in by PokerStars – the “Bahamas for $1” Phased Tournaments. This is a Steps-style promotion with a difference. Players can only buy into the first phase of three and have to win their seats in the later phases. There are no opportunities to buy-in directly to Phases 2 or 3.
Phase 1 has a hyper-turbo structure and players start with 3,000 chips. These games start every thirty minutes and only the top 5% of players qualify for Phase 2. Phase 2 games start every four hours, and players carry forward their chip stacks from Phase 1 to be faced with a turbo structure with blinds starting at 750/1,500 (ante 150). The top 10% of players carry forward their chips stacks to Phase 3.
Phase 3 games take place every Sunday. These games also have a turbo structure, but this time blinds start at 5,000/10,000 with a 1,000 chip ante. One PCA Main Event package is guaranteed for the winner, plus additional packages for every $15,855 in the prize pool. Any money left over is distributed as $109 rebates or a single prize of less than $109. It is a fantastic prize for the investment of $1.00.
