Party Poker is compensating for the delay in launching its much-hyped MILLIONS Online leaderboard promotion by doubling the number of prizes available during the first four weeks of the promotion – which is now scheduled to start on Monday 5th March.
Back in December, Party Poker held its first ever MILLIONS Online tournament. The event was guaranteed for $5 million and, thanks to a comprehensive satellite program, 1,027 players entered the $5,300 buy-in tournament – helping the event beat its guarantee by $135,000.
Buoyed by the success of its inaugural MILLIONS Online tournament, Party Poker than announced an ambitious plan to host a second $5,300 buy-in MILLIONS Online tournament in December 2018 – only this time the guarantee is being quadrupled to $20 million.
In order to support the event´s massive guarantee, a weekly MILLIONS Online leaderboard promotion was announced giving players the opportunity to win seats into the target event or for stages along the qualification path. The implication at the time of the announcement was that the promotion would begin at the end of the PowerFest series (yesterday), but it has since been delayed until 5th March.
What Does the Promotion Consist Of?
Each week, Party Poker will host three leaderboard competitions – one for Low buy-in Power Series tournaments (up to $11.00), one for Mid buy-in Power Series tournaments ($22.00 and $55.00), and one for High buy-in Power Series tournaments ($109.00 and above). Points will be awarded according to players´ finishing positions and will accumulate on a leaderboard.
At the end of each week, $60,000 of MILLIONS Online tickets will be distributed between the top twenty players in each leaderboard, with the bulk of the prize pool going to the top ten players on the High leaderboard – who will each win a $5,300 seat in the target event. The balance will be made up of satellite and sub-satellite tickets.
What makes the promotion so appealing for High stakes players is that, if they win more than one seat in the MILLIONS Online tournament between now and December, they can swap their extra seats for $5,300 in tournament dollars. For some players, the promotion is effectively a free pass to play in High buy-in online tournaments for the rest of the year!
How is Party Poker Compensating for the Delay?
The delay has been caused by a software update scheduled for Saturday 24th February. The update is expected to introduce several new features that will support a revised Power Series tournament schedule starting on 5th March. The revised schedule is rumoured to consist of an improved mix of games types and structures, thus making the software update necessary.
In the Party Poker blog, the site´s Managing Director – Tom Waters – wrote he wanted players to benefit from the improved mix of game types and structures when working towards a high leaderboard position, and consequently the MILLIONS Online leaderboard promotion was being delayed to coincide with the launch of the revised Power Series tournament schedule.
He also announced that, because the site didn´t want players to miss out on the opportunities, Party Poker is doubling the number of prizes available each week when the promotion gets underway on Monday 5th Match. Therefore, $120,000 of MILLIONS Online tickets will be distributed during the first four weeks of the promotion and, rather than the top twenty players winning prizes in each leaderboard category, the top forty players in each category will win prizes.
A Good Opportunity to Qualify Early for the MILLIONS Online
With double the number of prizes available during March, it looks like a great time to visit Party Poker – even if you only win a modest sub-satellite ticket. With there still being nine months until the beginning of the MILLIONS Online event, satellites and sub-satellites are going to be relatively quiet, and therefore easier to qualify through.
