GGPoker Launches Automated Bubble Protection for MTTs

Posted on by Roy Smith

GGPokerPlayers who finish on the bubble in multi-table tournaments at GGPoker can rest easy as the site’s new bubble protection feature will refund their buy-in.

Bubble protection at GGPoker will happen automatically and there’s no need to opt-in or purchase insurance of any kind. The only requirement for eligibility is to register for the tournament before it actually starts. Players who come aboard during late registration won’t be bubble-protected.

The head of GGNetwork, Jean-Christophe Antoine, stated in a press release that the new bubble protection feature is a first for the online poker industry with regard to built-in automation. The concept had been tried before many years ago, but players had to actively purchase bubble insurance to be covered.

Fee-Based Insurance a No-Go

It was around 2011 when online MTT crusher Chris Moorman was promoting a site that offered bubble protection for a fee. Players were able to select the tournaments on major poker sites at which they wanted to be protected and were covered within 10% of the payout field. The idea flamed out rather quickly.

It is expected to last much longer at GGPoker since there are no fees attached and the network is simply providing a free service to its regular customers. The one player that falls short of a pay slot and misses an in the money finish will receive his or her buy-in back. Antoine added:

We decided to reward the players who register to tournaments before they start since they are the ones getting the games going,

MTT Boom

Tournament poker, both live and online, has enjoyed a resurgence of sorts. While cash games were all the rage many years ago, it seems that more and more players are favoring multi-table tournaments and Sit & Gos in recent times. The health of an online poker site used to be reflected in the number of its cash game players, but that’s no longer the case.

The recently concluded World Series of Poker enjoyed record numbers of participation this year. And online poker sites around the world have been boosting tournament guarantees significantly.

Party Poker hosted a record-breaking $20 million GTD tournament late last year. This year, it’s the US-facing Winning Poker Network and its top skins of Black Chip Poker and Americas Cardroom that are setting records with a multi-day Venom event that featured a $5 million guarantee that greatly surpassed that amount and pulled in $6.3 million in prize money.

Bubble Protection Begins Next Month

Automatic bubble protection will begin on August 1 at GGPoker, the flagship poker room on the GGNetwork. Unfortunately, the site isn’t open to players within the United States, but GGPoker continues to grow in Asia, Canada, and specific regions in Europe.

GGPoker’s 200% up to $1,000 Welcome Bonus is among the best in the industry. Add to that a monthly $100,000 leaderboard, an awesome loyalty program, and now bubble protection beginning next month and you have a poker room worth checking out.
